Three Artists In One Visit
The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts presents the works of Victor Bokas, Tony Krysinsky and James Carter as part of the 2008-2009 Lyceum series at Pensacola Junior College.
The exhibit runs Aug. 25 through Oct. 10 at the Visual Arts Gallery on the Pensacola campus. Come meet the artists at a reception 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 28.
A Gulf Breeze native, Bokas is one of Florida’s most-recognized artists. One of his artistic purposes is capturing the absurdity and fun of images that surround us every day. His interest in the whimsical adds light-heartedness to his work, where vivid colors, bold shapes and visual energy collide. In 2000, a Bokas design was selected to be the floor of the Orlando International Airport.
Krysinsky’s current work is mixed media, acrylic on wood. His art presents a very textural imagery created via a combination of carving and painting. The style that permeates these images reveals varied influences – modern masters, ’60s pop, New Orleans funk, Southern folk art and more. His works are part of many private collections and have been included in numerous museum shows.
Carter specializes in cloisonné enameling. The skilled designer/artist produces one-of-a-kind gold and silver jewelry. He is recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Florida State Council of the Arts and an Award of Excellence from the Trustees of the American Craft Council. Formerly an instructor at PJC and the University of West Florida, Carter now focuses exclusively on studio work and conducting workshops.
PJC’s art gallery is located on the Pensacola campus at Ninth Avenue and Airport Boulevard. Hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. Admission is free.
